This has been a crazy week in rap, Lil Wayne wanting to leaving Cash Money, Iggy Azalea getting nominated for the best rap album grammy (LOL). Aside from the headlines a lot of great music came out this week. In this blog I am using a new format in which I will rank my favorite 5 songs of the week from now on. Enjoy

Honorable Mentions:

Bad News – Danny Brown & Action Bronson

Detroit rapper Danny Brown & New York MC Action Bronson released a dope song this week for the new GTA V. Although it didn’t make my top 5, I think its still worth a listen.

Choppin – Riff Raff & Rae Sremmurd

Another song that didn’t make my top 5, however I thought this one was hilarious with two of the funniest rappers in the game rapping over this crazy beat by Mike-Will-Made-it.

5. Big Dawg Sh** – Jeremih

Chicago artist Jeremih has been winning recently with his single “Don’t tell Em” going platinum and his various features this year. This song is no different as he rides over this crazy beat alongside Chi Hoover. I really enjoyed the music video that goes with this song as he filmed in the heart of downtown Chicago. Watch Below or listen here.

4. 50 Ni**az- Nipsey Hussle

California rapper Nipsey Hussle has been getting a lot recognition recently with his release of Crenshaw last year. It seems he is back and ready to drop another project soon with the release of this single. I really enjoyed the sample used for the beat and he is rapping about some real stuff on this. Listen below.

3. Knucklehead – Earl Sweatshirt & Lil Herb

Who would have thought an Odd Future rapper Earl Sweatshirt and a rapper from the hood of Chicago, Lil Herb, would collaborate together. The surprising thing is that the duo sounds perfect together and now I’m really looking foreword to more collaborations by them in the future. Listen below.

2.  7,000 Girls – Overdoz feat. Childish Gambino & King Chip

Some new Gambino for us this week as he is featured on the new Overdoz song, with King Chip alongside as well. This song is all around hilarious and the beat is great. Listen below.

1. PND Colours EP- PARTYNEXTDOOR

OVO R&B singer PARTYNEXTDOOR who is most known for his song “Recognize” released a short 4 song EP out of nowhere earlier this week. This has been on replay all week since it dropped, my favorite song being “Don’t Worry”. Listen below.

This concludes the StandOUTs this week, follow the blog on twitter @UICStandouts or like the page on Facebook as I update both with new music from time to time.
