I know a lot of us were studying hard this week for finals, so its likely that most people were unable to keep up with the hip hop releases this week. You’re all good though, because I got you with my favorite five releases this week to keep you up to date with the hip-hop genre. Enjoy.

No. 99 – Joey Bada$$

Joey dropped another dope song from his upcoming album B4DA$$ coming January 20th. For this one he recruited his tour DJ Statik Selektah for the production and they also put together a great video for the song as well. Watch Below

Throw Sum Mo – Rae Sremmurd feat. Nicki Minaj & Young Thug

I’m not afraid to admit I like Rae Sremmurd’s music a lot with songs such as No Type and No Flex Zone getting a lot of replay from me in 2014. This song is their new single in anticipation for their debut album SremmLife coming January 6th. I loved Young Thug’s verse on this and Nicki does her thing on the hook. Listen Below.

5. Schemin’ Up – OB OBRIEN feat. Drake & P.Reign

If you heard the Rich Homie Quan and Drake leak this week, the drake verse may seem familiar because its the same. It seems that leak was the wrong place for the Drizzy’s verse as this is where it was intended to be. This song is overall hilarious to me and all 3 OVO artists do their thing on it. Listen Below.

4. Who Would’ve Thought – Chief Keef feat. Future

I know its hard to keep up with all of Chief Keef’s releases since he puts out like 10 mixtapes per day. Well this week he put this song out for what I’m assuming will be for his studio album coming in 2015, “Bang 3”. This song sounds like the old Keef and I think it could be as big as Hate Bein’ Sober on the radio. You be the judge and listen below.

3. Chillen While We Sippin’ – Kid Cudi feat. King Chip

It seems Chicago Producers Chuck English and Blended Babies had this old Cudi song in their archives and unexpectedly decided to release this to the world this week. I am so glad they did because nothing is better than hearing old Cudi songs. Listen Below.

2. PRhyme – Royce da 5’9 & DJ Premier

This album was released this week and is for my hardcore hip hop fans. Royce da 5’9 from the group Slaughterhouse, decided to bless us with an album completely produced by DJ Premier. Royce is just giving you bar after bar on this with Premier holding it down like on the production. The project also has a lot of big name features on this such as Schoolboy Q, Mac Miller, and  Common. After about five listens favorites off this album are “U Looz” and “To Me To You”. Listen below.

1. 2014 Forest Hill Drive – J Cole

Most people have heard this album since it leaked 2 weeks ago, however it wasn’t officially released till this tuesday. This is by far my favorite J Cole album as he put together a very concise project of only 12 songs and he seems more focused on each song than on previous projects. My favorites off this are “January 28th” and “A Tale of 2 Citiez” although there are definitely more than two standout songs on this. Listen to the album below.

This concludes this weeks Standouts, check back next week for more songs. Also follow the twitter account @uicstandouts and like the the Facebook page for daily updates on music. See you next week!
