Happy New Year y’all! I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful New Years ever celebration. Now for those of you that know me well, know that I am a devoted country music fan. I am in love with all things country so for the end of 2014, I thought I’d list my personal top 10 country songs from last year (with a little borrowed help from iTunes and Taste of Country, ha!).
So let’s get this party started!
Sorry, I know I started of with slow, sappy stuff…but Lee Brice won over everyone’s heart with this gem. He showed that he was trusting his lady who won over his heart. He was letting love take over him. I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for anyone head over heels in love with someone. Also, this was the number one song used for prom/homecoming/dance proposals in the last year alone!
Oh man, this is the perfect break-up song with just the right amount of sarcasm and mockery in it! There’s a neon light at the end of the tunnel so he’s telling you to let go of whatever the past holds and follow the light into a new adventure. Sure, the one before this didn’t work out but how long are you going to sulk over it? You might as well just go talk to that blond at the bar instead, I’m sure it’s much more fun 😉
Kenny Chesney is back y’all! This funky comeback song was from the The Big Revival album and man he did just right. It’s old-school and hipster-y but with a great modern twist. And Chesney says it like it is — a little messed up but we’re all alright!
Oh I know what y’all are probably thinking, another break-up song…but I promise this is a funny one! This song is just so different and hilarious that it had to be added to the list as one of my personal favorites. I’m sure Bentley’s inspiration came from the fact that he is licensed pilot himself…and a little heart break unfortunately. But instead of obsessing over it, he makes the best of it. I don’t even have to explain it, just listen to it for yourself. I mean, who wouldn’t want a plane rockin’ like a G6!
I had to add this song to list just because it does such a great job supporting feminism…just read the lyrics up there, it’ll give you the idea. It directly refers to quite a few famous country songs like Boys Round Here by Blake Shelton and Get Me Some Of That by Thomas Rhett. But it does so in such a fun and comical manner that you have to sing along to it. And the best part, it makes a great song to work out to!
I know, I know, I just went on for days about feminism…but this song is just SO. MUCH. FUN! And every country fan knows how hot Brantley Gilbert is so it was given that this song would make the list. It’s got like a mysterious and 60’s vibe to it, especially if you watch the video. It’s great upbeat party song, your head just automatically starts bobbing when the song comes on. Country DJs, take note!!
While I’m sure this isn’t the one of the best country songs this year (there are many other much better by Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood) but I just want to turn up the radio and dance in my car every time this song comes on, I can’t help it! Two gorgeous women kicking butt and singing about it, what can you not like about that!?
This is Brad Paisley’s newer stuff but he still retains the same charm which is why this song is an instant hit. Obviously, it’s a head over heels love song and those are the best when it comes to passing a simple, lovely message across. Anyone who loves someone so much can easily relate to them, which makes it such a romantic song.
Whoever thought I wouldn’t include Luke Bryan in this list doesn’t know me very well. Ah man, this song just makes you want to grab that special someone and dance your heart out with them! Let’s just say that this is one of Luke Bryan’s more risqué songs but that don’t mean it’s any less good. I’d love to get my love on and buzz with Luke playing this in background! Also, you totally have to watch the video because Luke Bryan make some of the craziest faces in it!
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are the epitome of country perfection. This lyrical gem was some of Tim’s best work in 2014 and will always be. It reminds us that it’s always the little things that matter. It’s just such a nostalgic and gratifying song with a mellow tune in the background, especially with the Faith Hill collaboration. Seriously, it goes back wayyyyy old school and brings back some good southern memories.
So there you have it folks, country top 10! I hope y’all enjoyed reading the article as much as I loved writing it. If you’re new to country music (if so, welcome to the club and hit me up, we’ll get along real well!), I hope this article gives you something to start with and if you’ve always listened to country, I hope you take a trip down 2014 memory lane with me!
