The StandOUTs: Best Rap Music of the week 1/18

Joey

Another week passed by and it was a great one for rap music as 3 high profile artists decided to give the public new projects. Check it out below.

Lupe Fiasco – Tetsuo & Youth

Honestly this is the most complete Lupe project I’ve heard in a long time. He comes out the gate aggressive as ever with the nearly 9 min song “Mural” where hes just spitting bar after bar that you lose track of the length of the song. This album has many complex stories packed into each song from “Dots & Lines” where Lupe is talking about his desire to leave his record label Atlantic Records to “Body of Work” where Lupe touches on darker subjects such as Drug Trafficking. Chicago’s own started off 2015 rap music great and deserves recognition for this dope album.

B4DA$$ – Joey Bada$$

Brooklyn Rapper Joey Bada$$ has been putting work in the rap game for a minute. This week he finally released his debut album and it was worth the wait. This album is perfectly balanced with boom bap beats like “Paper Trail$” produced by Dj Premier, to chill songs such as “Like Me” produced by the late J Dilla, to up tempo songs like Christ Conscious . Joey even gives you a look into his personal life with songs like “O.C.B (Only Child Blues)” where he talks about how it was to be an only child growing up. After listening to this, I hope this album blows up similar to Kendrick’s debut project and New York finally gets another hip hop icon.

Sorry For the Wait 2 – Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne decided to give us a free mixtape of him rapping over mostly popular beats in rap such as “Coco” and “U Guessed”. I’m not a fan of this whole tape but there are some gems on this such as “Fingers Hurting” and “Used to” feat. Drake. Download the whole tape here.

That concludes this special addition of The Standouts, for more regular updates on new music like the Facebook Page or follow the twitter account. You can also follow me personally @LFH25. See you next week.
