The StandOUTs: Best Music of The Week of 2/1

the weeknd

2015 music has been great so far and this week has continued that trend with releases from the likes of The Weeknd, Migos, & Action Bronson. Read below to see what other songs stood out the most to me this week.

Drinks on Us Remix – The Weeknd, Swae Lee, & Future

Mike-Will-Made-It released this song back in December and I thought it was dope just based on how hard the beat goes. This week The Weeknd decided to bless the song by providing a verse for it and turning this from good song to great song. He provides lines that make you laugh and lines that make feel cocky like “Every year my year you know I always got to flex”. Swae Lee also provides the catchy hook and Future comes in at the end sounding more aggressive than I’ve ever heard him. Listen Below.

Where You Belong – The Weeknd

The Weeknd released another song this week for the movie most females will be lining up to see next weekend “50 Shades of Grey”. After his last release “Earned It” for the movie I thought he wouldn’t be able to match that, but he somehow did. The legendary producer and Kanye West’s right hand man Mike Dean produced this beat and did a great job with all the synth sounds over this and the awesome guitar riffs at the end. I’m unsure if they sampled “In the Air Tonight” but it sort of sounds like it at some points in the song, and I’m not even mad at it. Listen Below.

Set You Free – Bryson Tiller

I had no idea who this guy was 6 months ago but after hearing his song “Don’t” this fall and his remix to Drake’s “How Bout Now” I think this guy is gonna be the next big name in R&B. The bass on this beat is insane and the sample is worked into it perfectly as Tiller provides awesome vocals over it. If you’re still sleeping on Bryson Tiller I would jump on the bandwagon now as I see 2015 being a big year for him.

Big League Chew- Action Bronson

The Alchemist and Bronson have been connecting on songs for minute and this song shows again that they’re combination is one of the best in the rap game. Bronson’s word play on this song is on point as always and he shows that his album Mr. Wonderful dropping later this year is gonna be one of 2015’s best. While you wait for that, Listen to this to hold you over.

One Time – Migos

Migos is back in 2015 and ready to continue their reign as one of the most entertaining rap groups in the game. The beat they rap over on this is something I haven’t ever heard them go over before but they kill it like always. Its crazy to me how they can take simple phrases like “one time” and make it into a catchy song that you can’t get out of your head. Takeoff’s verse at the end of this is my favorite as his flow is ridiculous, along with all funny lines he drops. Listen to this One time below.

Involved – Towkio Feat. Vic Mensa

Chicago’s best rap posse SaveMoney seemed poised to make 2015 their year and this song gives strong evidence that it will be. Producer Kaytranada made this 80’s music sounding beat and Towkio & Vic kill it. Really nobody is making music like this right now and its what makes SaveMoney so great right now. Listen Below.

That concludes this special addition of The Standouts, for more regular updates on new music like the Facebook Page or follow the twitter account. You can also follow me personally @LFH25. See you next week.
