We are only 2 months into 2015 and this is honestly looking like the craziest year for rap ever. Already we have gotten projects from Lupe Fiasco, Rae Sremmurd, Joey Bada$$, and more. Then this week the most recognized names in rap decided to each drop something in different ways. Check out below what I thought stood out the most.

Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2 MUSIC VIDEO – A$AP Rocky

A$AP Rocky started the week off right by dropping dope visuals to his crazy song Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2. The video almost depicts the exact feeling I have when this beat drops: partying, rioting, and getting a little too lit. After the song ends A$AP previews a new song that should be on his upcoming sophomore album. I honestly think that his album will be top 3 of the year, we’ll see if my prophecy come true, but for now watch the video below.

Wolves (Song Preview) – Kanye West feat. Vic Mensa & Sia

Kanye was all over the news this week releasing his new clothing line through adidas. I don’t have the type of money to be buying the Yeezy Boosts but I do need those low top grey yeezys whenever adidas decides to release them. Back to music though, first of all this is a huge win for Vic Mensa which is awesome as his a Chicago artist finally getting the recognition he deserves. Like I said before I predict this will be Vic Mensa’s year and he will surpass Chance the Rapper as Chicago’s best upcoming artist. This wolves song sounds crazy as the beat is ridiculous and both of the features do their thing on it.  I need this song soon on my kanye playlist. You can listen to the preview below (Skip to the 8:32 min mark).

The Blacker The Berry – Kendrick Lamar

After taking 2 Grammy’s on sunday Kendrick decided to take the internet by storm this week and released a brand new song out of nowhere. After the release of “i (Love Myself) many people wondered what direction he was gonna go with the next album and even some were worried he might be veering too much out of his lane. Well he’s not as he came back to his roots with this new  song and it is straight fire. Kendrick is rapping more aggressive then ever and is spitting the best verses of his life, the last ones of the song alone are so complex and mind-blowing that they have you guessing what he’s gonna release next. I am really excited for his next album because I am extra curious how “i” and this song fit into the concept of his next album. Be on the lookout for any announcements soon regarding his album because we should be getting an album title real soon, for now listen to this great song below.

If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late- Drake

So unless you live under a rock you know Drake dropped an album this week after he released a weird documentary showing his life in Canada. Supposedly this album dropped  because its his last album under Cash Money and he is also trying to leave the label with his mentor Lil Wayne, if thats the case I salute Wheelchair Jimmy for his loyalty. Regardless of why we have this album now, I’m glad it dropped because it is all around dope and gets better with every listen. The only thing I would have done to make it better is cut down the number of songs to 15 instead of 17 by getting rid of the songs “Madonna & Preach” or substituting those songs for “How Bout Now” & “Heat of the Moment” which released late fall last year. I have too many favorite songs off this but my favorite go “No Tellin’, Jungle, & Know Yourself” in that order. Listen to the whole album below.

That concludes this special addition of The Standouts, for more regular updates on new music like the Facebook Page or follow the twitter account. You can also follow me personally @LFH25. See you next week.
