Tree is easily one of my favorite rappers out of Chicago right now. For those who aren’t familiar with Tree, he hails from the west side of Chicago and has spent a majority of his rap career creating a new genre dubbed “soul trap”. The combination of soulful samples and more introspective lyrics with trap-flavored beats puts an interesting spin on the drill sound. Earlier this year Tree dropped his latest project, Trap Genius. Again Tree succeeds in promoting his unique sound as the beats bang real hard and he paints vivid images of what it’s really like in rougher areas of Chicago.

Recently, Tree dropped some visuals for a track on the album, “Hold Up“. The video seems to focus on typical night life for Tree, with some pretty cool shots of him performing live. Check the video below. You can also find a stream for Trap Genius below.
