If there’s one person on Earth whose voice can serenade their way into your soul, it would be Jose Gonzalez. The Swedish singer-songwriter, whom I’ve been a fan of for many years, performed two back-to-back sold out shows at Lincoln Hall last month. His show was truly an unforgettable one.
The singer performed in front of a sold out crowd, for not one, but two nights in a row. More impressively, he captivated the attention of the entire audience during his nearly 2-hour set. At his concert, Jose Gonzalez performed both old songs and new, introducing songs from his latest album titled Vestiges and Claws which was released earlier this year. He also performed a couple of covers, including one of his songs that he’s written for his other band, Junip.
The backdrop, a plain black cloth with a mountain and outer space painted onto it that hung behind the band, only added to the whimsical and serene feel of the room and the music. The blue lights that shone on the stage accentuated the white paint lines, creating a glowing effect.
The entire night was consisted of fans swaying to the calm and ambient music and mouthing the lyrics in-sync with the singer. I, myself, couldn’t help singing along when Jose performed some of my favorite songs.
Some of the other highlights of the night was when he performed the song “Stories We Build, Stories We Told” and when he concluded the night with his song “Leaf Off/ The Cave” (if you want to see what other songs he performed, you can see his setlist here).
If you’re a fan of heart-wrenching, soulful, indie-folk tunes, I’d definitely recommend that you listen to Jose Gonzalez. Two of my favorite songs by him are “Heartbeats” and “With the Ink of a Ghost“, both songs that he performed live at his show. Check out the songs below and let me know what you think in the comments. If you like what you hear, you can check out the rest of Vestiges and Claws which is available now!
