This year there were many surprising Hip-Hop/Rap nominations for next years 60th Annual Grammy Awards; such as, Rapsody, Logic, 6lack, and Tyler, the Creator. However, I feel there have been a few rappers who should have been nominated for some of the work they’ve put in this year.

A Tribe Called Quest

This Hip-Hop group has been around since the 90s, made up of rappers, Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White. Just last year they lost member, Phife Dawg, and they released their album We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service which they finished after his passing. The album received critical acclaim for it and has been one of their best albums. It was one of my favorite albums of 2016. Though I feel their album should have received a nomination for their last album.

Joey Bada$$

This Brooklyn Native released his album, All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ which is my favorite album for this year. It came with songs like, “Devastated,” “Ring the Alarm,” and “Temptation.” This album had conscious bangers and also addressing socio-political topics with some great features from Kirk Knight, Nyck Caution, and Meechy Darko, J Cole and ScHoolboy Q.

Lil Uzi Vert

Despite being nominated for Best New Artist, I feel he should have been nominated for these categories: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Rap Song for the hit “XO TOUR LIF3.” I can’t be the only one who is singing along at the top of my lungs when, “Push me to the edge, all my friends are dead!” part comes on.

Run the Jewels

This Hip-Hop duo composed of veteran rappers Killer Mike and El-P. They got nominated for Best Rap Song, “Chase Me” this year with Danger Mouse and Big Boi. However, I feel they should have also been nominated for Best Rap Album, for their album Run the Jewels 3, which was another one of my favorites from last year. The song “Legend Has It” was used as the official theme for Marvel’s Black Panther trailer.

Vince Staples

This rapper released his album, Big Fish Theory, which is one of my favorites from this year and has many bangers on it especially songs, “BagBak,” “Yeah Right” and “Big Fish.” The album also shows his growth as an artist, and how modern Hip-Hop should sound. I feel Vince should have been nominated for this great album.
