New York Hip-Hop hasn’t had its shine since the early 2000s, because of the feuds that many of the rappers had with each other, and the South started gaining popularity that they have been dominating Hip-Hop for the most part; however, can 2018 be New York’s year back on top with acts like Cardi B, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, and 6ixNine, A$AP MOB, Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, and The Underachievers.

Wednesday Flatbush Zombies teased a new album, movie, and a instrumental album. Then a fan asked Meechy Darko of the Zombies for a Beast Coast tape, Meecy Darko responded with “ALBUM.” Issa Gold of the Underachievers retweeted Meechy’s tweet with “Soon” and Pro Era retweeted it with a smiling face with horns emoji.

The Flatbush Zombies are scheduled to release an album April 6th. The Underachievers will most likely release a project(s)  this year as they always do every year, as a duo or individual projects from either or both members. Pro Era has a slate of projects to be released this year from Joey Bada$$, Aaron Rose, Dessy Hinds, Chuck Strangers, Jab47, Dirty Sanchez, Kirk Knight, as well as a Pro Era album. These 3 groups of New York artists make up the collective of the Beast Coast which was started by rapper Capital STEEZ before he passed away. All these groups have the most talent in terms lyricism, production, message they convey in their songs and staying true to New York Hip-Hop and adapting to new sounds. I feel that these 3 groups can bring back New York Hip-Hop to the mainstream and keep it in the spotlight until another region takes the mainstream over.

Here are a few of my favorite songs by each of these groups:

I believe that 2018 will be the year of the Beast Coast and the year New York Hip-Hop will make a comeback with all the project from these 3 groups and the collaborative album coming from the 3 groups as a whole.
