Halleloo everyone, I’m back! There literally have been so many new albums this year already, and they’ve all been AMAZING! Every single new release this month (that I listened to) is on this list in some way, shape, or form. Believe it or not, though, even with all the new music this year, this probably has to be my most difficult blog to date. Probably because I was listening to the same three songs over and over all month, BUT LET’S NOT THINK ABOUT THAT! LET’S THINK ABOUT ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS ON THIS MONTH’S BLOG!

With everything that is played on my show, you all probably think I have way too much happening in the skull area of my body. So, I want to give everyone a little insight as to what’s going on in my brain, without having to look at the “Recently Played” section on my Spotify. The solution I came to was to tell everyone about the hidden (and not so hidden) gems in my music library for the month. Some of the music I post will be at the top of charts, some of the music won’t be your style, some will be a band’s biggest hit that I’ve just been happening to listen to a lot, and some will be completely unknown to you!

So, to start it off, here’s just a couple of my favorite artists for January, a little bit about them, and some song suggestions:

  1. Waterparks (Pop Punk)

No, this isn’t about the type of amusement park that people often go to because it’s really hot. This is about the band that is basically a textbook definition of pop punk. They just broke through the scene over the past two years and have gotten really big, really quickly. They actually followed me on Instagram when they were BARELY a band, like 4 years ago, but have since unfollowed me, as well as probably 1000 other people that they followed when they were a small band. It’s OK, though, because I didn’t really listen to them until about a year ago. Although really, I didn’t LISTEN to them until early this month. And wow, I am so glad I did. They are SO good! AND they just happened to release a new album this month, called Entertainment, which is actually amazing. Go give them a listen!

Song suggestions: “Plum Island,” “Dizzy,“ “Take Her to the Moon”

  1. Fall Out Boy (Alternative Rock)

ALL OF Y’ALL PROBABLY THINK I’M CRAZY FOR HOLDING OFF ON ADDING FOB TO THE BLOG FOR THIS LONG. For those who don’t know, Fall Out Boy is my favorite band of all time, and has been for years now. Of course, I’ve always loved them. But they just released their latest album (THEIR SEVENTH LP! MY BOYS ARE GETTING OLD) and that just caused me to listen to them a ton this year. SO THANKS PETE (A+ to anyone who understood that). Also, you know I couldn’t pick only three songs to suggest so of course I had to include honorable mentions. Oh well.

Song suggestions: “The Pros and Cons of Breathing,” “Bang the Doldrums,” “27” (HONORABLE MENTIONS: “Novocaine,” “The (Shipped) Gold Standard,” “You’re Crashing, But You’re No Wave,” “Chicago Is So Two Years Ago,” and “The Mighty Fall.”)

  1. Logic (Rap)

I honestly can’t believe that I didn’t jump on the “Logic Train” as soon as he started to become popular. I’ve always been really picky with the rappers I listen to, and so I just never jumped on the bandwagon. But wow, I definitely should have. He has great beats, great lyrics, great messages, and really, just great everything. In the overpopulated world of music, we have a guy who is extremely talented and has a real passion for what he’s doing. I really respect that.

Song suggestions: “Everybody,* “ “44 Bars,” “Black Spiderman”

  1. Issues (Metalcore)

They’re back!! And higher on the list! I don’t think I mentioned this the last time they were on the blog, but there’s two lead vocalists in the band. Well, not anymore. Early this month, it was made clear to all of the fans that one of the vocalists was no longer with the band, which was really upsetting because their band was really focused around the two vocalists! The other vocalist can totally handle the duty of being the sole singer, but it definitely will change the sound of the band. So, this month was really just me listening to all of their stuff with two vocalists for the last time. 😦

Song suggestions: “The Langdon House,” “Flojo,” “Someone Who Does”

  1. Black Veil Brides (Hard Rock)

Alright, so before everyone starts judging me, I just want to make it very clear that, as a musician, I like to listen to music that sounds good, regardless of image or genre. If the music is good, I don’t care who makes it. Now that that’s out of the way… So, my sophomore year of high school I just happened to discover a TON of music, including BVB. I really, really liked them until about a year and half ago when I stopped listening to them. But then I found out that they were releasing a new album, their fifth, on January 12th. I decided to just give the new album a chance and it’s actually really good (although, NGL, their fourth album is my personal favorite). IF YOU CAN LOOK PAST IMAGE, which a lot of people can’t, just try listening to the music.

Song suggestions: “Crown of Thorns,” “Faithless,” “Vale (This Is Where It Ends)”

  1. Dawn Golden (Electronic)

THANK YOU, NETFLIX! Honestly, if it wasn’t for Netflix, I probably would have never heard of Dawn Golden. I was watching this LOVELY show called Shameless on Netflix when I heard a song of his playing. I fell in love and decided right then and there to listen to every song he’d ever written. So therefore, I think I’ve made it clear that he is worth listening to and everyone should go listen to some chill music, right now.

Song suggestions: “All I Want,* ” “Last Train,” “Still Life”

  1. Camila Cabello (Pop)

Well, she’s back on the list after a couple of months away from this lovely blog. I guess I’m just bringing everyone back this blog, IDK. As I’m sure plenty of people know by now, Camila released a new album this month. I’m not gonna sit here and lie, but I expected more. But overall, it’s not a bad album! Definitely not my favorite, but I’m so proud of her for finally releasing a solo album!

Song suggestions: “Consequences,” “All These Years,” “She Loves Control”

  1. Palaye Royale (Alternative Rock)

I think this is the first time ever that a band has been on my blog three times (which, out of four blogs, is a lot). BUT IT’S OKAY, BECAUSE THEY’RE REALLY GOOD! Honestly though, I absolutely LOVE Palaye Royale and will be saying that until the day that I die. They should be releasing a new album in a couple months and they’re recording it now, SO HOPEFULLY I’LL HAVE MORE MUSIC TO PUT ON HERE IN LATER MONTHS!! You’re welcome.

Song suggestions: “Live Like We Want To,” “Don’t Feel Quite Right,” “The Underground”

  1. Avatar (Metal)

Shoutout to my friend, Abby, who really likes Avatar, otherwise I probably would have never even heard of them in the first place. Now I’m not super, super into them (I mean you can see that they’re last on my list), but that’s just because they’re not exactly my style. But I still think they’re good enough to be put on this list!

Song suggestions: “The King Wants You,” “Bloody Angel,” “Smells Like a Freak Show”

  1. Watsky (Rap)

ilovewatsky ilovewatsky ilovewatsky; Can you tell I like Watsky? I’ve been of fan of Watsky for a while now, and I was really into him over the summer; he was playing at Warped Tour and my friends and I were going to see him, so naturally, we had to listen to him religiously. I haven’t really listened to him much though since summer, UNTIL NOW! Just probably the last week of this month, I’ve really been listening to Watsky, and I definitely would suggest him to more people!

Song suggestions: “Brave New World (feat. Chaos Chaos),” “Tiny Glowing Screens pt. 2,” “Seizure Boy“

*Wow, I’m so original with my music choices!!
