Can I Overcome My Introversion For One Night?

Have you ever had a trait of your personality conflict with an activity?

I had a paper due this week for my psychology class, Theories of Personality, where I had to describe my personality using three traits. One of the traits that describes part of my personality well is me being low on extraversion, which is introversion. This past week I also bought a ticket for UIC’s Homecoming Dance, because my friends peer pressured me to buy it. How are these two things even remotely related?

Writer’s Block

Has anyone else hit a brick wall that they’ve become stuck and uninterested in something you like to do?

I’ve hit writer’s block recently in writing raps/songs that it’s made me a little uninterested in writing, and it’s been hard to write about what I’ve wanted to write about, and it becomes more and more overwhelming in my head as time progresses. I usually write about a need for intimacy, my shyness, how life is going, and other things, but it’s been difficult to write and get out what I’ve been wanting to get out, because it’s about what you say and how you say it. I’ve made a playlist to help me try to get out of writer’s block, and get back into my groove of writing, whether it just be technical or writing full songs.

So in this playlist I’ve included mostly Hip-Hop songs with a few alternate rock and pop rock songs. I included some songs in this because they’ve helped me write before such as: “What’s Understood (ft. Joey Bada$$)” by Nyck Caution and “The Way I Am” by Eminem. Other songs, like “Illuminate (ft. Kendrick Lamar)” by Ab-Soul make me think about writing. Meanwhile songs, “Train Your Mind” and “State of Mind” by Dizzy Wright, “Enter the Void (ft. Ab-Soul)” by Joey Bada$$, and “YMF” by Ab-Soul make me think and overthink about what I want to say. Then there are songs like “Chum” by Earl Sweatshirt, “Hard Times” by Paramore, and “Slow Down” by Phora which I relate to personally as I go through problems and try to get through them. Lastly, there are songs about pushing forward such as, “Sing For The Moment” by Eminem. Many of the topics in these songs I’ve wrote about in some way, and can probably help me get through writer’s block and get me back in the moment. Maybe it can also probably help those out there struggling with writer’s block or if you’re stuck on a project.

Does Em Have One More In Him?

This month Eminem has made headlines with his diss against Donald Trump at the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards in his own cypher where he attacked Trump and his administration over the NFL protesting of the National Anthem, response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, Las Vegas shooter, as well, as going against his own fans who support Trump, that they can no longer be his fans in a off the top freestyles. The day after he announced he had signed Compton rapper Boogie to Shady Records, not to be confused with New York rapper A Boogie wit da Hoodie. Yesterday his manager Paul Rosenberg posted a photo on Instagram of Yelawolf’s new album “Trial by Fire” and in the background there is a ad for a medication called Revival, with the E backwards resembling Eminem’s emblem. Additionally, if you call the number of the ad it play an instrumental resembling “I Need a Doctor” by Dr. Dre featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey with a message about seeing a doctor about symptoms which can be assumed to be Dr. Dre. All over social media there has been a lot of speculation if that is his new album title and there are fake track lists surfacing with producers and features. I’m wondering if he has one more classic in him after all this time, because to me his only classics are SSLP, MMLP and the Eminem Show where he was in the prime of his career, then he releases a disappointing album with Encore, then good albums not great with Relapse, Recovery, and MMLP2. I feel he might have one more classic album in him with this, especially with him returning to having Dr. Dre on production again. Additionally, him working with an unorthodox act in 2 Chainz, who most, including me wouldn’t think he’d work with a trap rapper. Eminem was featured on Big Sean’s song “No Favors” with him rapping over a trap beat which are the new trend. I’m hoping he has trap inspired beats on his new album, because he sounds good on them. From his freestyle and the ad, he seems like he’s going to tackle more sociopolitical topics to get his point across to his fans that support Trump, as well as some topics he’s tackled before like his former substance abuse problem. Besides 2 Chainz, I speculate he might have Boogie, Conway and Westside Gunn on his new album, to showcase the new talent he’s acquired on his label. I’m hoping after this new album he works on another Bad Meets Evil project with Royce Da 5’9. Additionally, I’m hoping for him to work with new rappers or rappers he’s never collaborated with and blackout on other artists’ songs. It’s probably the beard that he has grown that’ll make it another great album, usually some artists grow out their facial hair like J Cole and Kendrick and came out with amazing albums. All I can say is that I’m very excited what Eminem has in store with his new album.

Decorated Retirement

Mark LoManaco also known as Bully Ray, Bubba Ray Dudley, and Brother Ray who was known for his partnership with Devon Dudley or Brother Devon as part of one of the most decorated tag teams in professional wrestling history the Dudley Boyz or Team 3D in the companies: ECW, WWF/E, TNA, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, announced he was retiring from in-ring competition after suffering a concussion at Death Before Dishonor XV.

He’s been apart of some of the best moments in wrestling history such as ECW when wrestling was taken to the Extreme with many violent and hardcore matches in history back in Extreme Championship Wrestling. Buh Buh Ray Dudley as he was known back in ECW with D-Von used to put people through tables, sometimes through flaming tables, which lead to his catchphrase “D-Von get the tables!” in WWE. They also won the ECW World Tag Team Championship many times in their tenure with ECW. He also part of innovated tag team wrestling with the Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian back in the WWF/E with their clashes in Tables, Ladders, and Chairs matches they had during the WWE’s most well received period of wrestling known as the Attitude Era winning the WWE Tag Team Championships many times during their tenure. They also had success in the independent scene such as TNA and New Japan Pro-Wrestling capturing the IWGP Tag Team Championship and TNA World Tag Team Championship at the same time during TNA and New Japan’s partnership. Then Ray would reinvent himself as the heel, Bully Ray, who would go to win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship several times as well during the end of his tenure with TNA. Then he returned to WWE for one last run with the company which him and D-Von had a good run feuding with the New Day and the Wyatt Family; however didn’t capture any gold in their last run with the WWE. After that he went to Ring of Honor without D-Von, where he joined up with the Briscoe Brothers to capture the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champion. Then he would lose it and challenge the Bullet Club for the titles at Death Before Dishonor XV, where Jay Briscoe turned heel on him and threw a table at him where his head hit the edge of it causing him to get knocked out and take the pin. He was then taken to a hospital where it was found that he had suffered a concussion. Then this past weekend at ROH Global War’s he announced that he was retiring from in-ring competition and thanking the fans for his long journey, and would continue to be with Ring of Honor to help the young wrestlers.

I still remember watching many of his matches in ECW, WWF/E, TNA where he had many great matches, and I feel like there is nothing left to accomplish for him in his career as he’s a very decorated wrestler who’s innovated tag team wrestling and managed to reinvent himself. So I feel his retirement is sad, but well deserved, especially after his concussion history which has put many out of careers early and has made some wrestlers do some bad things in their life. Maybe he’ll return to WWE one day and do one last “Devon get the tables!” and put someone through a table on a reunion show as D-Von is in WWE as a producer. Maybe he’ll also reunite with Edge & Christian and the Hardy Boyz who all currently work for WWE with D-Von.
