Upset Stomach

The Madness has returned.

With everyone’s  bracket already busted, March Madness this year has definitely been different from the rest.

With Purdue losing to Arkansas Little Rock and Michigan State losing to Middle Tennessee, let’s recap what has happened so far.

On day one of the first round, the biggest shock was Purdue losing to Arkansas Little Rock. Purdue led by 14 points with 5 minutes remaining in the second half. They proceeded to let Little Rock back in the game with missed free throws and poor defense.

Next thing you know, the game was tied 70-70 leading to overtime. After the first overtime, it was tied 75-75 which led into a second overtime. With Little Rock leading in the second overtime, Purdue starts to come back, however it is cut short and Little Rock takes the win with the game ultimately ending at a score of 85-83.

purdue and little rock

On day 2, things got crazier. With millions of people saying Michigan State was going to win it all, there was a huge let down when things did not go as planned. Middle Tennessee jumped out to a big lead early leading 15-2 in the first five minutes of the game. Surprisingly, Denzel Valentine and Michigan State had no answer for the Blue Raiders. At the end of the first half, the Blue Raiders were outplaying the Spartans with the score being 41-35. The success carried onto the second half as Michigan State never led in the game. Towards the end, with the game in the balance, the Blue Raiders pulled away ultimately ending the game with a score of 90-81. The game was sealed by Giddy Potts’ block on Bryn Forbes:

And finally the first round Madness capped off over Northern Iowa’s win over Texas. With the game being close the entire time, Northern Iowa surprised several people after they took the lead in the first half. The game consistently goes back and forth as to who takes the lead which keeps everyone in suspense. The biggest shock was towards the end of the game when Texas made a layup to tie the game at 72 with 2.7 seconds left. Surprisingly, Paul Jesperson made a half-court shot leading them to defeat Texas with a score of 75-72.

So as you can see, March Madness this year has been full of surprises and upsets that have not only destroyed brackets, but hearts as well. With only the first round completed, there is plenty more in store. Who knows what will happen next?

Full or…Fuller House?

When the news came to viewers that Fuller House, the sequel to the ‘90’s sitcom, Full House, would be airing on Netflix, I was ecstatic. Growing up, Full House was the show I would watch every night at 8 p.m. with family and friends. With all the laughs, tears, and [slight] heartbreak when the series ended, it immediately makes the top of my list when it comes to listing my favorite TV shows.

full house
FULL HOUSE (ABC-TV, 1987-95) Shown: (l-r) Blake Tuomy-Wilhoit, John Stamos, Lori Laughlin, Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit, Dave Coulier, Andrea Barber, Mary KateAshley Olsen, Jodie Sweetin, Bob Saget, Candace Cameron, Scott Weinger

However, when I started Fuller House, I was a bit disappointed with how it turned out to be. Although the show has several parallels to the original series, it is a show that only got me excited when there was a reunion with a majority of the characters.

The first episode begins with the entire cast reunited, with the exception of Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen). The crowd goes wild when each cast member individually makes their entrance on screen. However, when Michelle gets mentioned, the cast does a poor job of trying to making the Olsen twins feel guilty for not being in the sequel. The cast stares directly at the camera for way too long and makes the situation awkward. Michelle’s absence in the show is constantly brought up which loses the concept of it being funny.

full house michelle gone

While watching the show, I’ve noticed there are several split screen moments or repetitions from the original series. In the first episode, the show starts off with the original theme song that brings back several memories to the viewers, however right after, the song comes on again, except it is sung by Carly Rae Jepsen. In this theme song, there is a split screen with the characters from how they looked in the original series to how they look now. At the end of the show, they do another split screen when the cast is singing to get Tommy (DJ’s baby) to stop crying, similarly what they did to Michelle when she was crying in the original series. If anything, it made things nostalgic.

fuller house

The plot lines are very similar to how they were in the original series as well. With DJ (Candace Cameron Bure) being a single mother, her sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and best friend Kimmy (Andrea Barber) move in with her to help her raise her kids, which is exactly how the original series was, except the genders are reversed. When DJ’s oldest son Jackson is upset about sharing a room with his younger brother Max, it is the exact same plot line from the original series when DJ was upset about sharing a room with Stephanie. Another similarity is when the boys miss their father and DJ tells them they can tell them anything they want to know about their dad and that they will watch homemade videos to help them remind them of how their dad was—the same plot line was done in the original series when the girls missed their mother.

So overall, Fuller House to me is a trip down memory lane because the plots are similar to the original show and only made me miss the original series a bit more. After all, nothing can beat the classics, right?

What is Love?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Well, day-before Valentine’s day technically.

Even though this holiday is commonly associated with the emotion, “love”, what exactly is love? Well, love can mean so many different things. There’s romantic love, in which I believe is accepting someone with flaws and all, and have a strong connection with them physically and emotionally. There’s familial love, which is the love that consists within a family, and there is platonic love, which is common in most friendships where you respect them as a friend, but nothing more.

With this holiday being known for people expressing their love to each other, it’s not ONLY meant for couples. Valentine’s day is a day where you can show the people you care about how much they mean to you. So if you’re celebrating Valentine’s day without a significant other, no worries! You can still enjoy the holiday by telling other people how much they mean to you. So don’t forget to show your friends and family how much they mean to you by doing something sweet for them.

If you’re stumped as to what to do or give to others on this wonderful holiday, here are a few ideas…

  • Cook food for the ones you care the most about. Food is always the key to one’s heart, and especially knowing that things are homemade makes everything taste just a little bit better 🙂
  • Write a heartfelt letter. This can apply to anyone! Regardless if you are in a relationship or single, writing a letter to someone you care about is always a wonderful gesture and it lets the other person know that their part in your life is greatly appreciated.
  • If you’re looking for presents to give to friends, family members, or a significant other, you can never go wrong with flowers, chocolate, and/or candles! Scented candles can always brighten up one’s mood when they walk into a room, flowers can signify many different meanings, depending on which one you give, and chocolate is a sweet delight that is impossible to say no to! 🙂
  • Go out to a fancy restaurant! This can apply to anyone! If you’re single, go out with your single friends and have a great time! If you are taken, plan a special date to your significant other’s favorite restaurant and make it a memorable date.
  • Lastly, don’t forget to spoil yourself! You are your biggest motivator and supporter. It’s okay to take some time for yourself and just do things you like. Love yourself!

Have a great Valentine’s Day!

Till next time,

“So no one told you life was gonna be this way…”

Hey guys! I’m back for the spring semester! I hope you all had a wonderful break and are adjusting into this new semester smoothly.

Last semester, it came as a shock to most people that I have never seen the hit ‘90’s show, Friends. I didn’t understand what all the hype was about. After getting constant confused looks from several people when they realized I have never seen the show, I decided to give it a chance. To no surprise, I was addicted and finished the entire series this past winter break. With all the laughs, tears, and lessons, this show still airs late at night being an all-time favorite.

When rumor started spreading that there will be a Friends reunion, several people went ecstatic. With high hopes, I was anticipating this reunion more than ever, but sadly it’s not the reunion we were hoping it to be.

The “reunion” we have all been hoping for is not what it seems like.

When Matthew Perry confirmed he was unable to attend the reunion on The Graham Norton Show, he further explained this was not the reunion everyone is expecting.

“It’s not the reunion everyone is hoping for- they are celebrating Jim Burrows who was a director of Friends…The other five are going to be on this special and I am going to introduce them from London. I’m doing the play here so I can’t be there.”

Friends Reunion

Although this was not the reunion we were all expecting, seeing a majority of the cast together again will be sure to bring back memories.

Be sure to tune into this two-hour special! It is scheduled to air on NBC on Sunday, February 21.

Chipotle’s $3 Burritos!

Hey guys!

Happy Halloween!

Aside from all the treats we’ll be getting this Halloween weekend, here’s another to add to your list!

Chipotle is selling $3 burritos from 5 p.m. to close today! However, there’s one catch.

The catch is, is that you have to add something “unusual” or “unnecessary” to your costume.

So, for example, you can add on roller skates to your costume of a scuba diver.

The restaurant’s idea of this is to address the idea to customers that there are “unnecessary additives” found in most fast food places. It is to alert the customers about the types of artificial flavors that are used in most fast food restaurants and why they are not necessary.

For more information, check out this link: $3 Chipotle Boorito

Remember to be safe, but have fun as well!

The Bulls are Back!

After an intense match up against the Dallas Mavericks yesterday, the Chicago Bulls ended their preseason with a victory; the score ended up to be 103-102.

Rose made his debut during yesterday’s match scoring eight points and played a little over 10 minutes against the Mavericks. With these stats, Rose feels better than ever and feels confident about Tuesday’s season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“‘I felt good’ Rose said. ‘I just wanted to come out and get a feel for the offense.'” Rose mentions in his interview with ESPN. Although the star player fractured his orbital bone in late September, he mentions how his vision is improving and the swelling is decreasing.

Derrick Rose says ‘looks like it’s a go’ for regular season after preseason debut

Ending their preseason with a record of 4-4, the Bulls are predicted to have a bright season with Rose being in the starting lineup on Tuesday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In just 3 days, the regular season will begin with the Bulls playing against the Cavaliers. This intense match will be one to watch, because these two teams faced each other in the 2014-2015 semi-finals.

cavs and bulls

Although the Cavaliers defeated the Bulls in the semi-finals and advanced to the conference finals, they ended up losing against the Golden State Warriors in the NBA finals.

The Chicago Bulls are not giving up hope when playing their rivals this Tuesday.

Be sure to watch the season opener THIS TUESDAY October 27th at 7 PM on ESPN.

ABC’s Newest Success Show: Quantico!

Hey guys! I hope everyone had a great week and finished their midterms strongly!

When it comes to T.V., I am not one to constantly keep up with a series, however,  I decided to give ABC’s newest show, Quantico, a shot and now I definitely found a show to keep up with every Sunday.

Quantico, revolves around a group of FBI recruits who all had their personal reasons for joining. Similar to How To Get Away With Murder, the series consists of flashbacks of the recruits training in Quantico and later flash forwards to present day where one of the newly recruits ends up being a suspect of one of the biggest terrorist attacks in New York City.

The series starts off with Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra), who is found laying on the ground after the attack. FBI immediately assumes it is her who planned the attack and take her into custody. FBI constantly asks her questions and she re-tells the story of her experience while training at Quantico. She mentions everyone she encounters and the story evolves as the viewers get to know more information about each character throughout every episode.

After watching the first two episodes, the viewers are drawn into the suspense of the show because behind every main character, there is a secret about them.

After the first episode, the recruits are assigned to interrogate each other to find out their darkest secrets and are supposed to reveal them to each other. As of now, we are still getting to know the main characters, but one by one, each character’s secrets starts to slip out as the show progresses.

With the theme revolving around who committed the terrorist attack, everyone can be considered a suspect, however, Alex is the main target because not only was she found laying on the ground right by the attack, her former lover/classmate, Ryan Booth (Jake McLaughlin), was found shot in her apartment and the bullet found in his body was from her gun.

Can you say plot twist? With all the evidence leading to Alex, Alex does whatever she can to clear her name. Who really shot Ryan? Who committed the terrorist attack? What secrets do the FBI trainees hold? Is Alex really innocent?

Be sure to check out Quantico every Sunday at 10/9c on ABC!

Until next time,

Priya 🙂

Wait, What Did She Say?

Hey guys! Welcome back to UIC! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is kicking off this semester to a great start! I’m so excited to start blogging again!

Back in middle school, I was obsessed with Zoey 101 like any other teenage girl. I was always rooting for Chase and Zoey to get together, but it was always a complicated love story between them.

zoey 101

The Time Capsule episode always teased us about how Zoey REALLY felt about Chase, but now we know.

On September 18, 2005, the Time Capsule episode aired for the first time on Nickelodeon. In the episode, Zoey initially told Chase that he would know how she felt about him in 20 years, but changed it at the end and said he could find out 10 years later.

The producer of the show, Dan Schneider, announced yesterday that it has been 10 years since the show aired and kept his promise. He uploaded a video which features Chase (Sean Flynn) and Michael (Christopher Massey), (our favorite bromance couple on the show), discovering how Zoey really felt about Chase.

In case you haven’t seen it, here’s the link! Leave your comments below! What did you think of Zoey’s feelings towards Chase?

Until next time,

Priya 🙂

Meet Timothy Nguyen!

Hey guys!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer so far. Recently, I got the opportunity to interview a very well-known UIC photographer, Timothy Nguyen! You may know him as the mastermind behind “Humans of UIC”, the photographer behind the camera during photo shoots, and even as the guy who is constantly trying new places to eat around UIC, but sitting down with him, I got the chance to learn a bit more about himself, his work with Humans of UIC and his passion for photography!

tim 6

Tim is an upcoming junior majoring in computer science. He loves watching YouTube videos, going to the gym, and playing sports such as football, baseball, basketball and even track! While this social butterfly is always around campus, he admits that in high school he never opened up to new people. “It’s funny, I only talked to the same 5 people in high school every day and never went out to approach new people. Once college started, that all changed”. His passion for photography started 2 years ago because he wanted to learn something new. By only watching YouTube videos, Tim learned how to master the art in photography. Shyly, Tim admits, “I want my pictures to be different; I want them to stand out”

tim pic 1  Courtesy of Timothy Nguyen

Humans of UIC started when Tim noticed a blog post about Humans of UIC from blogger Kruti Soni, and contacted her along with other friends asking if they wanted to turn the idea into a Facebook page. With everyone on board with the idea, Humans of UIC became the next big thing on social media.

Tim loves the idea of meeting new people and getting to know more about them, so when taking one’s photo, he asks for a quote for other students to relate to. Tim reveals, “I feel like it brings the UIC community closer together, it helps us get to know one another so when we see a person on campus, we already know a little bit about them”.

tim pic 4 Courtesy of Timothy Nguyen

Tim’s passion for photography inspires him to take pictures of students for photo shoots and events throughout UIC. Tim enjoys working one on one with people during photo shoots because there’s always something different in each photo shoot, “Not only am I taking photos of the person, I also get to know more about them as well”, Tim mentions.

Although Tim’s photos are already remarkable, he’s always looking for ways to improve. Another page Tim is involved in is “UIC Photography”. By taking pictures of the UIC campus, he always adds a quote with his pictures to describe the moment and how to inspire others each day. “I want others to feel something when they look at my photos, by adding quotes it helps inspire them each day and it also reflects my mood when I was taking the photo”.

tim pic 3 Courtesy of Timothy Nguyen

One thing Tim wants everyone to know is that whatever we do; we should be the best at. “Whether you are studying to be a doctor, engineer, or even a photographer, if you love doing it, be the best at it. Don’t give up on your dreams”.

Thank you again, Tim, for all the photos you take to make UIC shine! We look forward to seeing many more photos from you throughout the year!

Be sure to like and follow, Timothy Nguyen,  Humans of UIC,  UIC Photography, and UIC Eats on Facebook!

NCAA-March Madness: Final Four

March Madness has definitely been an eye-opener this year. College basketball fans all over the country had shocked reactions when noticing that a majority of the brackets started breaking in the round of 64 with upsets of UAB over Iowa State and Georgia State over Baylor.

Unfortunately, my bracket was done and over with as soon as I found out Baylor lost to Georgia State by just one point.

However, this tournament has still been one that many fans are talking about everywhere.

final four

Tonight marks the night of the Final Four, and with no surprise Kentucky is up against Wisconsin, both ranked at the first seed in their respective regions.

Not only that, Duke, who is also ranked at the number 1 seed in the South region is up against Michigan State which is a surprise to a lot of fans, thinking they would not make it as far as they did.

uk and wisconsinduke and michigan state

Michigan State has been doing very well in this tournament so far. They definitely started gaining attention when they defeated Oklahoma in the Sweet 16. Things also turned around when they defeated Louisville in the Elite Eight in a close game with the final score being 76-70.

With Michigan State playing extremely well, tonight’s game will be very unpredictable to say the least.

Be sure to check out the games tonight on TBS!
