erykah badu 2015

This year has been a pretty awesome year of great music and album releases from artists who’s music we just can’t do without. And Erykah Badu couldn’t let the year end without dropping her latest mixtape “But You Caint Use My Phone” available via iTunes/Apple MusicBYCUMP also carries a feature from Mr. Hotline Bling himself, Drake. For those of you who have yet to get your hands on mixtape, check out her single “Hello” featuring Andre 3000 below. 3000 is member of Hip Hop duo Outkast, Badu’s former boo, and father of their son Seven. The mixtape dropped today… November 27th, Black Friday. But let’s dub today a Badu Friday.

you can't use my phone erykah badu 2015

The Baduizm doesn’t end there!! This Sunday, Centric presents The 2015 Soul Train Awards, hosted by the one and only Erykah Badu. Honorees are Jill Scott for Lady Of Soul Award, and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonnds for The Legend Award. Performances by Jill Scott, Brandy, Jazmine Sullivan, Boys II Men, Fantasia, Chicago’s own Jeremih and R. Kelly and a host of others. The Soul Train Awards air November 29th on BET and Centric.

Badu recently did an interview with Power 105’s The Breakfast Club, hosted by DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlemagne Tha God. During the interview, she laid many rumors and myths to rest. I was happy to see this interview for several reasons. And I won’t give away details, for those who may have yet to see it… but I will take a minute to take notice to one moment in the interview that stood out to me.

We all know, just how well known Charlemagne is for all of his antics and shenanigans during interviews with artists. During the last half of the interview, Jay Electronica made a surprise visit to studio. He had already sent a message from Envy to Charlemange to keep the interview free of foolery and on a respectful note. Out of respect for his best friend and mother of his daughter Mars, Badu. Though his unannounced appearance was gangsta as hell… I thought it was not only adorable, but honorable to see Jay… the man, the super producer, the artist, take a stand for Erykah, as a man and artist, in defense for her reputation as an artist. We also know that mama Badu can hold her own in the game of clap back. But to visibly see them there, on the same accord of FTBS, was just one of the many highlights in the interview for me personally. Shouts out to Jay Electronica, for showing them how a father holds it down. STAND UP!!

“But You Caint Use My Phone” available via iTunes/Apple Music now, and other music streaming sources December 4th.

Adam K – The Word Is Love Remix [Interview + Music Stream]

artworks-adam k the word is love steve slim hurley

We all have songs… blast from the past, that we know and love. A remix is always a dope way to breathe new life in to a song that holds meaning, and help to carry on. Electronic dance music DJ/Producer Adam K, by way of Toronto, Canada, has done just that! Bringing you a new remix to a track that he himself personally loves, and does it justice! Chicago’s own Steve “Silk” Hurley’s house music classic “The Word Is Love” is back, with a fresh sound and sure to be in rotation, and keeping you on the dance floor!

I got a chance to catch up with Adam K, check the interview below.

B Roc -What made you choose to remix the single “The Word Is Love”?
Adam K – I remixed “The Word is Love” because it’s my all time favorite house record as I’ve been listening to that song since I was a kid.  When my manager told me he knew Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley and the S&S guys and could get me the vocals, I  was like…. ummmm yaaa set it up!!!

B Roc – How did you get started in music?
Adam K – My brother taught me to how to play drums right before junior high school as he didn’t want me to get stuck playing the flute. (laughs)

B Roc – Tell us something about you as a DJ/Producer, that you want us to know.
Adam K – I had to think about that for a second.  Everything you see about me is 100% real… no fake followers, friends, fake plays, fake likes. All real, what you see is what you get. Organic Adam. Oh!… and I like rock music too!

B Roc – Who are some of your musical influences, and why?
Adam K – Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, and deadmau5. Neil because he’s Canadian and such a brilliant lyricist. Pink Floyd literally taught me what a synthesizer was. Hendrix … well just because. And deadmau5 because he doesn’t give a fuck, even if he is a total douche bag sometimes.

B Roc – What do you hope the fans get from your music?
Adam K – Well, that’s a pretty broad question as I do a lot of music. I’ll say for this song specifically, I hope they see the magic in that vocal. It’s special and needs to be heard and perhaps for an audience that’s not familiar with the timeless original.

Here’s the music video to a version of the original track by Steve “Silk” Hurley’s “The Word Is Love.”
