Savier – Plan The Escape

Savier is a hip hop artist from Chicago. His music has been catching my attention lately. He’s a very talented lyricist and I’m looking forward to his full length project Le Sauveur. He recently released his third single from the project and the track is titled, “Plan The Escape”.

Following up “Working Man”, Savier’s third release “Plan The Escape” reflects a grittier side of the man.  Serving almost as a yin, to Working Man’s yang attitude.  The verses reek of taboos and deranged truths. With lines, “prescription I got is in grandmamas name/ maybe it’s wrong but who is to say/ s*** all I know, it takes it away” Needless to say, Savier isn’t afraid to display his skeletons for you to see.

Full length project Le Sauveur  & “Plan The Escape” video coming soon. For now you can stream the new track below.

Towkio – Heaven Only Knows (Feat. Chance The Rapper, Eryn Allen Kane, Lido)

Towkio has recently released one of the hottest tracks of the year so far. If you aren’t familiar with the name Towkio, he is a member of the Save Money group from Chicago. He’s been rather “low-key” in recent years but it is not because he hasn’t been releasing music it is because the success of other Save Money members have overshadowed him a bit. Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensa have blown up with success in the past two years but it now looks like Towkio will garner some great attention.

Towkio recently released this track titled, “Heaven Only Knows”. It is off his upcoming mixtape titled, .Wav Theory. According to Chance The Rapper it will be the hottest mixtape of 2015.

This track features Chance The Rapper, Eryn Allen Kane and the production was done by Lido. I love the production work done on this track. It fits Towkio’s hard to pin down style. It’s a very playful and soulful beat. The verses put together by Towkio and Chance sync with this beat so perfectly too.

Listen to it below and enjoy this track. .Wav Theory will be released April 28th.

Tunnel Movement

Several great hip hop artists have emerged from Chicago in recent years. Guys like Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, The Cool Kids, Rockie Fresh have all made a name for themselves in the hip hop world. Mick Jenkins, Lucki Eck$, Alex Wiley and Several members from the SAVEMONEY collective are on the path to establishing themselves. Chicago has a very talented pool of hip hop artists.

One hip hop group from Chicago that not everyone is familiar with is a group named Tunnel Movement. I didn’t even know about these guys until a few weeks ago but they have been grinding it out since 2009. They make great quality music. If you’re a big fan of groups like Mobb Deep and Gang Starr then this group is for you.

This groups consists of three members, Kwote1, N.O.A.H and DJ Decept. At one point it was four members but former emcee Wordsplay had to leave the group for personal reasons.

Their first studio album is titled, Overdue. Their latest release, Overlooked, was released in October of 2014. Their team of producers for that album included individuals from Chicago, Germany and even Croatia.

The two emcees Kwote1 and N.O.A.H hold their own on their work. These guys are extremely talented and it makes me happy to know that these guys are from my hometown. Check them out! you definitely won’t regret it.

You can stream their Overlooked album below.

Is Lupe Fiasco Back?

Lupe Fiasco recently released his latest album Tetsuo & Youth. The past few weeks I have been taking in this album. I didn’t know what to expect from this album because Lupe Fiasco’s previous two albums haven’t been too good at all to be honest. Lupe Fiasco began his career with two great albums, Food & Liquor and The Cool. Since then we never really got the same music from him but now it looks like the old Lupe Fiasco is back. Modest Mouse’s Latest Singles

If you didn’t already know Modest Mouse is releasing a new album in March! Great news for fans of Modest Mouse. Their last album was released about eight years ago. It’s been a long time.

The new album is titled, Strangers to Ourselves and it is set to release March 3rd. They have released two singles from the album.

“Lampshades On Fire” was released in December and you can listen to it below.

“Coyotes” was released last week and you can also listen to it below.

They are both really good songs and this only builds my anticipation for the album. If the rest of the album is anything like these two tracks it should be a great album.

Remember March 3rd!

BoneLang – Breathe Slow

How many of you would know what I was talking about if I mentioned BoneLang? If you do know that’s great and keep doing what you’re doing but if you don’t know I’m about to tell you a little about this group.

BoneLang is a music duo from Chicago. The two members are named Samy Language and Matt Bones. Hence the name BoneLang. I’ve been monitoring their recent releases and I really enjoy this group. Check out their SoundCloud page if you’re are left curious after reading this.

They recently released a new track titled, “Breathe Slow”. This track has a lot of underlying elements in the instrumental alone. You get saxophone pieces, pianos, chimes and accent drums. It’s a great smooth piece. Bones and Language integrate their flows with this beat easily and so fluid.

BoneLang’s upcoming EP titled, III is set to release Feb. 3rd. For now you can stream “Breathe Slow” below.

The Best Music of 2014

It is that time of the year again. The time where we look back at the year and pick our favorites of the year before the new year rolls in. I did a post on the best music of 2013 last year so I will be following it up with one on 2014 as well. 2014 was a good year in music. We got great albums from Flying Lotus, ScHoolboy Q, Circa Survive and even Pink Floyd.

Keep in mind these are my choices for the best music projects of the year. Don’t blast me if your favorite album isn’t on here. They won’t be in any order. I don’t like to rank music that way since music can be very different in several ways.

So here are my picks for the best projects of the year.

Rap Albums That Should Have Been Nominated For “Rap Album of the Year”

If you didn’t already know, the nominations for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards were announced on December 5th. The 57th Grammy Awards will be held on February 8, 2015. The eligibility period was October 1, 2013 to September 30, 2014. I would discuss all the awards if I could but there is way too many and I feel I am most knowledgeable in the Hip Hop/Rap categories.

I am going to be only discussing the “Rap Album of the Year” award. I am in disagreement with the nominations or the winner quite often. They say that the academy members who decide the winners for these awards choose the winners based on quality only and not other things like sales, chart performance, etc. With the “Rap album of the Year” award I feel that sometimes the winner is picked based on commercial success and not on the actual content of the album.

I was surprised when Macklemore’s The Heist beat Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid M.A.A.D. City at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. It was absurd. I have nothing against Macklemore but Kendrick Lamar had the best album by far.

This time around I am in disagreement with the nominations for this award. There are quality albums that were left out that fall under the “Rap Album of the Year” category. Sometimes the best rap work isn’t necessarily taken into consideration since this award is for albums only and not mixtapes. Mixtapes are just as great as albums and often times better than some albums.

So with that being said I will list the 6 albums that I believe were the best for the time period.
