There Is Good Hip-Hop Out There

As of recent, I have been seeing many individuals complain about Hip-Hop and how it is in a very bad state currently. As the genre continues to get bigger, of course there will a lack of diversity in most popular songs and can be easily shown by just looking at the Billboard Hot 100.

Riot Fest 2016 Day-By-Day Review

Once again, Fall begins to roll around in Chicago, and so does the annual Riot Fest. This year, there were significant improvements compared to past years: there was not as much stress about where the festival was going to be held – finally finding its place in Douglas Park following the (justified) drama of having to leave Humbold Park last year.

Overall, for a punk rock festival, the crowds stayed relatively calm, save for some organized and contained mosh pits during some of the sets, proving once again that Riot Fest is one of today’s most genuine music festivals. We danced, we raged, we moshed, we had the time of our lives. This year, members of UIC Radio got to experience some amazing sets at the festival, from melancholy indie rock to classic punk reunions to experimental hip hop and beyond, we saw the best of the best. Long live Riot Fest.

Joey Bada$$ – Killuminati Pt. 2 [New Music]

“You set yourself up for that one mane/The King of New York? Hah, we ain’t just gon let that one hang.”

Badass Joey comes out the blue with the sequel to his Killuminati Pt. 1, titled “Killuminati Part 2”. Produced by Knxwledge, Joey seems to have some things to get off of his chest pertaining to Kendrick Lamar’s recent bombing of Hip Hop, as well as his claims of being King of New York; using several references to the West Coast and dead rap greats, Tupac in particular. With all of these responses to Kendrick’s “Control” verse, how would you rate this one? I give him more props off top for at least responding over a different and original beat. HA!

Check it out after the jump! #ProEraNoError

Joey Bada$$ x Pete Rock In The Studio

Progressive Era frontman Joey Bada$$ has worked with a number of great producers during his young career, including the great DJ Premier. Now he’s adding another heavyweight to his resume in Pete Rock. In the clip you can see the two at Ecko Studios working on new material and Joey introducing Pete Rock to some of his recent material. Do you expect some classic Hip-Hop joints to come from the two? I know I do!
